Extension of birth and parenthood leave due to hospitalization of the mother

A mother who requires further hospitalization or who must be hospitalized again during her regular birth and parenthood leave for at least 15 days, may extend her birth and parenthood leave for the period of the hospitalization, up to a maximum of four additional weeks, and receive an additional maternity allowance for the time of the extension. A mother who is entitled to a partial maternity allowance (for seven weeks) may extend her birth and parenthood leave for two additional weeks at most.

Please note, if both the mother and the baby were hospitalized for periods shorter than 15 days within the birth and parenthood period, the two periods may be combined together to create the necessary eligibility to extend the birth and parenthood period, and on condition that the hospitalization periods did not coincide with each other.
